Letter to POA Members

Hello fellow members of the Lakeland Park POA. My name is Marc Pelton. I’ve been a Lakeland resident since 1983.  Recently I was asked by one of our neighbors if I would be willing to be on the Board of Directors of the POA if they nominated me. After some thought I agreed so I could give something back to the community, so to speak. Little did I know that only two other names would be submitted. Longtime Lakeland resident Charles “Bud” Stuart and Phyliss Sanchez resident with husband Vic since 1995. Three of the previous board members decided not to re-run and because no other residents were nominated, the three of us became the Board of Directors by default (Texas law states that an election is not needed in uncontested races).  This unexpected development was not part of the plan. However not wanting to see the heavy lifting of the previous Board of Directors go to waste and because we believe the association is vital to the neighborhood, the three of us agreed to step up and see what we could do to help preserve the POA and the Park. With five seats on the Board of Directors, we are actively seeking two more members to serve. For information, please contact Marc Pelton at [email protected] or 512-431-4925.

Our Mission Statement:

1) To preserve and protect the Park for all the residents of the Lakeland community.

2) Commitment to the idea of the Park as a resource for building community.

3) Promise to be both open and transparent with our decision-making processes.

No truly significant decision or expenditure of funds (i.e. gate, erosion control) will be made without input from the membership and a vote, if necessary.

Since we are a non-profit and strictly voluntary organization, we need your help to make any of this happen. Please give what you can, when you can, of your time, money and creative input. Every little bit helps. We are within $1,500 of obtaining the goal of $10,000 set forth in 2017. It would be awesome if we could actually meet that goal.

A good start would be to come to the following events:

Park Voluntary Work Day, Sat. June 22 from 9:00 am -12:00 pm.

Tree trimming, mowing, staining of T-dock, general clean-up

Potluck Social, 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Kick back and appreciate our Park

Let us come together as a community and do what we can to preserve and protect this valuable asset to our neighborhood.

Thank you from your Board of Directors,

Marc Pelton, President

Charles “Bud” Stuart, Vice President

Phylis Sanchez, Secretary/Treasurer

  3. Hell-o everyone,
Marc here. Just want to thank the folks that showed up for the Volunteer Work Day at the Park. It was a small but energized group. Much was accomplished.
Mowing, tree trimming, cleaning up of fence line, painting of the gate, address sign for the T-dock and the staining of both the picnic table and the T-dock. Topped off with some awesome pulled beef and tacos by LJ. Thanks Everyone.

And we hit the $10,000 goal set by the previous Board! It is amazing that this small community could pull off such an achievement. A thank-you to all that have donated over the past two years as well as those that donated over the weekend that put us over the top.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for what you have accomplished. Without community support this kind of thing does not happen.
    Once again thank-you.
    Marc
